Moody Publishers Review + Giveaway {pt. 2}!!

Yes, this is LONG overdue part 2 to Moody Publishers is really here!  Thank you very much for your patience, readers!
                             *****
Freedom's Pen tells the story of Phillis Wheatley, a slave who was set free and became a very expressive author and poet in colonial America.  Like The Captive Princess has 12 chapters and is softcover.  I just love the cover; it really fits the time period!

The book begins with Phillis as a young girl living in Gambia, Africa in the year 1761.  (She was orginally called Janxa, but her name was later changed to Phillis- the name of the ship she came to America on.)  She is kidnapped by slave traders, brought to Boston, and bought at an auction by the Wheatleys (hence, her last name).  She is taught by Mary Wheatley, and learns to write amazing poetry.  But Phillis learns something far greater than academics: she learns of the freedom and love Jesus offers to those who personally know Him which is reflected in her writings.

I love Wendy Lawton's descriptiveness in her writing.  Even her chapter titles are lovely as well as interesting.  For instance, chapter 11 is entitled "Elegies of Hope."  Beautiful!

Grace and Truth Books Review!

Grace and Truth Books is a great company that offers many, many wholesome books for the family.  They kindly allowed for me to choose a title from the selection of books they publish!  I chose Behind Mr. Bunyan

This is a short softcover book, containing 50 pages.  Though Behind Mr. Bunyan is from the Girls Heritage Set, it contains a great message for all Christians.  This was originally published in the 1700s, and since my dad loves old books even he was interested in it!  Thus we decided upon using it as a family read aloud.

Behind Mr. Bunyan tells the story of twenty-one-year old Agnes Beaumont, a Christian young lady who lives with her father.  Agnes starts to go to the church of John Bunyan- the man who authored a good number of books including the renowned Pilgrim's Progress and had been in prison for many years because of his preaching.  Agnes thoroughly enjoys the church meetings and has really grown in her walk with the Lord, but certain people in her life resent this, going at all lengths to bring an end to her attendance as well as ruin her and John Bunyan's testimonies.

Through it all, Agnes never denies her Lord, and remains a faithful warrior for Him.  Also included in the book are little comics that really enhance the book.  Bookworms, don't miss out on this one!

"About Grace & Truth Books
Who are Grace & Truth Books? We are the family business of Dennis & Naomi Gundersen, and our four boys, all of whom have made significant contributions to the business. Our oldest son Ben, designing covers; David, who has worked for us in packing orders and shipping / receiving. Mike, who designed our first website and has traveled to countless homeschool conventions with Dennis; and Greg, who is our resident artist, re-drawing cover art and inside book sketches.

But before any of this came about, all of our married lives, Naomi and I had dreamed of the idea of opening a Christian bookstore, even of becoming a Christian book publisher. This vision was in our minds back in the 70’s, long before any such thing as an online Christian book store existed!

Becoming an online Christian Book Store
It was in 1993 that our family first came across some of the great Christian character-building children's books from the 1800’s, then owned by Triangle Press. We were eager to distribute and become a book seller to promote those titles! Little did we know that, in a few short years, we would become their largest distributor of those books, and then, in a few short years, that we would be buying that company and would dub them all “Grace & Truth Books.”

Our company name, by the way, comes directly from a phrase in The Gospel of John, chapter 1, verse 17: “grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”   To my wife and I, it seemed that would be a marvelous name for a bookstore: Grace & Truth! So in 1994, that’s what we named our fledgling Christian book business.

Learning the art of Christian book publishing
Then it was in 1996 that a missionary we supported was hoping to find a publisher to bring back into print his story about his work in a particular tribal village in Papua New Guinea. So, in order to learn the art of publishing, we embarked on printing his “In The Hearts of Wild Men”, and learned how to go about publishing, if you will. Since then, we have become the publishers of almost 80 books, primarily Christian character building books for children."

The two styles I chose were the Plaid Dogwood

LOVELY!
and the Seahorse Square!

For the Plaid Dogwood, I personalized it by aligning my first and middle names at the top center, and adding a Bible verse at the bottom.  This one is my favorite- the pattern is my style!  It was convenient that there were already a few colors right there for my name that matched stationery.  For the Seahorse Square, I again put my first and middle names with a short text in "Harvey Text" at the bottom.

It was helpful that MeebleMail offers a "Help" page on their site as to cut-down confusion with installing my stationery.  For the next year, I can send an unlimited number of emails to friends, etc. which is fantastic!

Eco Lips Review & Giveaway!!

If you're wondering why I'm so sporatic at posting, it's because right now life is nearly filled to the brim with activites and a busy schedule!  So apologies for that...:)
                                               ********
Today I'm reviewing Eco Lips: a totally fantastic organic lipbalm company that makes almost every flavor imagined!

They most generously sent me their Gold Balm on an Eco Clip, and offered for me to select 3 lipbalms.  I chose the Dagoba Chocolate Roseberry, Honest Kids Goodness Grapeness, and Eco Tints Rose Quartz.

I'm really amazed with the products!
The Gold Balm on an Eco clip would be the perfect back to school product to clip on backpacks, lunchboxes, and more.  It would also be ideal for bikers, joggers, or anyone else on the move!  I clipped it onto my belt loop today, and it's nice that whenever my lips need a little boost it's right at my side.  Though the Gold Balm is not scented, it certainly is moisturizing, and also is non GMO and cruelty free.

The Dagoba Roseberry is actually a CHOCOLATE lipbalm!  Well, knowing me and my love for chocolate, I went with that:)  Some might rather skeptical of it's flavor, but really it's wonderful- good scent and does the job.

The Honest Kids Goodness Grapeness flavor has an obvious scent of grape, yet as is characteristic of all other Eco Lips products unhealthy ingredients are left out.  Sure to soothe mother's nerve:)

And I saved my favorite for last (well, aren't you supposed to save the best for last?:)... the Eco Tints Rose Quartz!  I really like the feeling of it as it glides over my lips as well as the scent, too!  The color is the perfect shade, and I enjoy wearing it for church, etc.

Eco Lips is definitely a "thumbs-up" with me, and one of the best companies I've reviewed.  What is really outstanding about Eco Lips are all their different varities and all the flavors within those varities.  For instance, with the Eco Tints, I could of chose mocha velvet, moonstone, etc.  When your lips are in need of some rejueventaion... try Eco Lips!!  And BTW, I like Eco Lips' logo (below):
  ~Read the Eco Lips Story~
"In the early 1990s, Andrea Danielson began brewing small batches of natural lip balm in her kitchen for her friends and family. She took great care in handcrafting the balm and packaging it in small amber glass jars to preserve the freshness of the pure ingredients. Andrea didn’t realize that by giving a sample of her natural lip creation to Steve Shriver, her life would be changed forever.
Having larger than average lips, Steve was continually searching for a better lip balm. When Steve met Andrea in 1995, he immediately fell in love with the lip balm, and moments later he also fell in love with Andrea. They were married in 1997 and Steve, a lifetime entrepreneur, quickly spent Andrea’s life savings on ingredients and packaging for the couple’s first product, Hemp Lip Buzz.
By 2003, Steve and Andrea had built a specialized private label natural body care company focusing on making high quality products for many other successful brands. Their company rapidly became a leading natural body care manufacturer in the Natural Products industry.
Much of the growth of their business was due to their top sales representative and entrepreneur, Jim King. Working out of his California office, he founded and grew a successful and environmentally friendly promotional products company called Access Eco. He enjoyed the process of building other peoples' brands through promotional products, but something was missing.
Jim had a vision of creating a lip balm brand like no other. He became obsessed with lip balm! Jim looked at every lip care brand currently on the market, buying them, one by one, until he had acquired over 200 different samples. From petroleum-based lip care to natural brands, he packed all of these samples and flew to Iowa to meet with Steve about his dream.
Jim and Steve spent hours mulling over a 10-foot conference table layered with what would soon become their competition in the lip balm industry. The goal was to create a brand image and an organic formula that would take market share from petroleum-based lip balm brands.
VoilĂ ! Eco Lips was born! Jim and Steve swiftly brought the product to market and began raising awareness of the importance of pesticide-free products.
Today, Eco Lips lip balm is handcrafted in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. With the mission of satisfying the needs of every customer, Eco Lips has been first to market with several innovative organic lip care products and packages. With environmental initiatives in place, a focused marketing and sales strategy, award winning packaging, and a relaxed, yet productive work environment, Eco Lips is making its way around the world, one set of lips at a time."

Eco Lips is offering one my readers their own Gold Balm on an Eco Clip!!
